8/10
This is a unique property in many respects. It comprised of only three units, one floor above a neighbourhood pub. The room is very spacious by London standards, and very nicely appointed. The only drawback is that the unit has no A/C, only a ceiling fan and an additional plug in tower fan. While London is not known for its extreme heat, I arrived in the midst of the second heatwave in two weeks, and the fans did little to help.
As for everything else, this is a great property. There are several bus stops across the street and several more a few blocks away, as well as two underground stations 10-15 minutes away on foot. The neighbourhood felt very safe and clean and offered plenty of places to eat within a few minutes’ stroll. The downstairs pub has a decent beer selection, but they only serve what can best be described as “South Asian” style food. If you are looking for fish and chips or bangers and mash, you will have to go elsewhere.
As for staff, the manager, Luigi, could teach a master class in hospitality management. He is warm and welcoming and will bend over backwards to help you in any way he can, whether it is app suggestions for your phone to help you navigate the city, or the best “authentic” Italian restaurants in the neighbourhood. Ruby, one of the servers, was delightful. Funny, charming, and happy to chat while you are at the bar or just passing through on the way to and from your room.
A fine property and staff, to be sure.
