The hotel's location is superb - it has the right amount of distance from the busy city centrum (10 minutes with a Uber). The location provides nice walking areas along the canal and a great shopping mall. You feel very safe.
The service was good and friendly in both the restaurant and reception. Gary that picked us up at the airport was sweet and informative. Pick-up was chaotic due to lack of communication, we waited for 30 minutes before we finally found each other. The hotel needs to be specific on location and be aware of the lack of connection for foreigners.
We came early, so they offered us breakfast - but did not inform us it would cost extra (we prepaid for other days).
We did arrange a tour through the hotel - we got another guide, not friendly, came late, didn't fill up gas beforehand, wanted us to pay for it, drove WAY TOO fast, did NOT comply with traffic rules, and wanted a higher price upon payment. The hotel should NOT have him with guests again.
We booked a suite, but it is just a bigger room. Great view though. Maintenance in the room caused us to have no hot water for a whole day, needed to shower in another room.
Had to call/write notes for extra shampoo/coffee.
There is load-shedding 3 times per day, which means no power or light. It is the government's decision, but a hotel should tell you this beforehand or have a generator for their guests. My mom felt and got badly injured because of the lack of lightning around the hotel.
