I took a long time to choose a hotel for a family trip and picked Savannah House from all the great reviews. The lady at the front desk was friendly and check-in was easy. As we walked down the hall to our room, both my children asked why it smelled so bad and what the smell was. I told them it smelled like wet dog. Got to our room and it was ok but smelled bad. Sat down and turned the tv on, one of my daughters went to the bathroom and said there was mold on the ceiling. I didn't think too much of it - I don't expect perfection from a hotel room - but it wasn't long before I had a headache, one daughter was nauseous, and the other had a headache as well. Decided I should check out this mold situation. It was all over the bathroom ceiling. Because of how we felt, I went to the front desk to ask for another room. On my way I noticed a dehumidifier plugged in and running. Turns out they had serious water damage the week before from the sprinkler system going off and that's why it smelled bad and was moldy. They offered another room but since it was the entire building I said I was concerned for our health. They have a second building that was not affected and thankfully offered a room there, which I accepted. The room there was fine.
I think water and mold are serious issues and they should have told people about it - that was hundreds of people sleeping in what could be an unsafe, at least unhealthy, environment.
