As you probably imagined, this place has the best view, period. When you travel south along CA-1 or PCH, the lodges on your right hand side is always better. Cliff House Inn's view falls into the "right hand side" category - unobstructed, private, mesmerizing, and tranquil. When we first arrived, parked and went to the front desk, that cozy ocean peek through the front gate is unparalleled.
The catch - go for the 4 "big rooms" when you can. They make a huge difference. They have better views, bigger room, better amenities in general, etc. You don't stop at a cliffside hotel just for a quick rest. You probably plan to stay there for an extend period, and the deluxe rooms are worth every penny for the upgrade.
Dinner offering is fine. Breakfast is subpar and goes quickly.
Best season to visit is those days with just right amount of sea breeze in the day time, and a bit chilly at night. Space heater works fine, but may be not in the winter.
Overall it's worth the stay, and we will definitely come back sometime, probably in the off season.
