It was a little family reunion in Rome, and it worked out perfectly with the River Palace. The hotel itself is charmingly odd, though well-equipped and impeccably set up. Great breakfasts, great service and an unbeatable location, good for the sites in central Rome, but also for the Vatican and the Borghese park. Even though it is well-served by the public transit (a metro station is literally on the block), we hardly needed to use it, as most things were within walkable distance. The multilingual staff was both welcoming and efficient, helping with reservations, recommendations, etc. And to cap it all, this hotel has introduced a new service that I have not seen elsewhere: they pretty much give you a smart phone for no extra charge, good for both local and international calls (free to most countries) and for internet service on the go in Rome. Other reviews suggest that the smallest rooms might be a bit claustrophobic, but choosing a slightly larger deluxe room (only marginally more expensive) we found nothing to complain about. There is only one minor issue that I could find (and, unfortunately, it comes with the charm): as the building itself is old (though perfectly renovated), there are occasional architectural inconveniences. There was a step in my bathroom that could be a source of trouble if you miss it in the middle of the night (I wound up marking it every evening with a towel, to make sure I do not trip). At the very least, I wold have it make more visible.
