I booked one of the larger rooms which was nice, but like the rest of the hotel, it was pretty “tired“ and could definitely use a facelift. The food was very good and the chef is obviously very competent but the choice of food on the menu is too limited. Staff at the hotel all try hard to do a good job and are very helpful, especially one lady who works at breakfast who was terrific in every sense. . Unfortunately, we left the hotel on a sour note thanks to the charmless front desk clerk who, when asked if we could extend our checkout time from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, advised he would charge us £20 an hour if we did not check out on time! Given we were staying in one of the most expensive rooms in the hotel and had been there for four days during which time we ran up a considerable bill for various extras including wine, this seemed a particularly obnoxious and dumb thing to do and we won’t be back.
