This quaint lodge may be more suited for wintertime …
We didn’t mind the 5.5 mile dirt road trip up the mountain to find it … gps from the Montrose side took us right there.
For me … that’s where the rustic charm began to fade a bit. They were understaffed. I waited to check in while a phone call from the clerk took precedence. There was NO A/C … just a fan in the window screen. This would not have been an issue since we came from our home @ 9300’ in Westcliffe, CO. However, there seemed to be a lot of road traffic until about 9 in the evening … and our ‘deluxe’ king was on the dirt road side. It was dusty. It was a bit noisy. I wanted to close the window, but would have had to move the fan and chance being too warm.
We decided to eat dinner at the Lodge … they were severely understaffed. There was one young lady serving as both bartender and waitress. We wanted to eat outside so we asked to be served there. The dining room was filling up, so she told us she might not be able to deliver our food outdoors since she was the only one working. So, we carted our meals and drinks outside ourselves.
The outdoor area was nice and family friendly. There were places to play yard games. We enjoyed that vibe. After our meal, we bussed our own ‘table’ and returned our plates and glasses inside. Two hamburgers and two beers were $40.
We went to bed early. The bed was so hard my hips hurt lying on my side. So … I didn’t sleep. We left @ 5:30 the next morning …
