Cute, modern apartment on the 17th floor in a nice new building, with two furnished balconies facing north with nice views and great sun exposure. However it really, really needs a deep cleaning. There is a cleaning fee collected and the place had obviously been cleaned, but not well. The toilet rim was dirty, there were water spots on the mirror, there was hair in the tub, all the floors were quite dirty, the insides of the kitchen cabinets were filthy, and the cabinet doors and handles were sticky. This could be a nice place, just needs a better cleaning service. There were no toiletries provided, which we were prepared for since this was an apartment and not a hotel. However, we were quite surprised that there were no towels - we were told it’s not included. We had to find a store and buy towels. There was WiFi provided and it was reliable and fast. The location was very close to the beach in Coquimbo (basically just across the highway), but a bit far from La Serena. Speaking of the highway, Route 5, the major highway in Chile connecting north to south, is right next to the building. Trucks go down this road at all hours of the night. Unfortunately the balcony doors in the bedroom are paper thin so it feels like you are sleeping in the middle of the road. Really good earplugs or noise-cancelling headphones are a must. Coordinating getting the keys was a bit complicated and involved, but worked ok. Owner doesn't speak English, but communication via email worked.
