We boomed the The Oread based on recommendations from friends who had visited. It is conveniently located on the KU campus and is a picturesque building.
However, the rooms are dark, sparsely furnished, and sterile. Lighting, carpet, some wall decor, and comfortable seating in the rooms would help. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our heat/ac unit was very loud when we got to our room, and Esperanca at the front desk was responsive and sent Engineering to address it. When the unit could not be promptly fixed, we switched rooms. Overall, there seemed to be some deferred maintenance. In addition to the heat/ac issue in our first room, the front automatic doors to the lobby were out of service, the tv remote and ice machine on our floor didn’t work properly. We were also disappointed to find the restaurant and bar were both closed on the day of our arrival. It is also annoying that guests are charged an extra $25 to park, when there isn’t an alternative to the hotel garage, given their location on campus. We likely would stay elsewhere, if we return to KU/Lawrence.
