As with their famous counterparts from the capital of Thailand, they feature international brand names at bargain prices, great entertainment opportunities, and restaurants serving cuisines from all around the world.

The history of large supermarkets and malls in Phuket doesn’t go back in time that far. The first large shopping complex to ever open on the island was Tesco Lotus in just 1998! Since then, they’ve been popping up all over. Have a look at the most popular shopping malls in Phuket – you'll feel at home at any of these modern and well-stocked venues.

Premium Outlet Phuket is a very original shopping venue in Phuket. Located along the Bypass Road, on the northwestern outskirts of Phuket City, this shopping complex is built like a village that only features boutiques and (a few) restaurants and bars on its streets. The peculiarity of Premium Outlet Phuket is that all the boutiques it hosts are brand-named and sell (mostly) only discontinued items at rock-bottom rates. From shoes to shirts to pants to sportswear to toys, there's always a good deal awaiting customers at one of the corners of this quirky yet charming shopping mall.

Made of stainless steel, aluminum and Plexiglas, Banana Walk is a futuristically designed shopping mall located on Patong Beach Road, 100 meters south of Bangla Road. Lit with colorful LED lights, it looks really impressive at night. This 3-storey shopping and dining complex is a melting spot of flavors throughout its 7 restaurants, and of fashion styles throughout its brand-named boutique stores. A convenience store can also be found on the second floor, which is very useful in case you forgot your sunscreen on the way to the rooftop mini-golf course.

Close to Central Phuket shopping mall is the Index Living Mall, which specializes in chic household goods. There are home theatre systems, artworks, bedding, kitchenware and even a few clothes outlets, but the main part of the mall deals in high-quality homeware items such as pans, rugs and the like. And in case you get the munchies while shopping, there's a rather incongruous food outlet right by the cashiers.

Supercheap, just north of Phuket Town, is well worth a visit. Almost the size of a city block, it's a sprawling warehouse-like shop stacked high with every product you could possibly imagine and more. If there's any logic to its layout, it would be difficult to explain, but its seeming lack of logic is the very essence of its charm. And it lives up to its name, so expect to be able to bag some bargains.

Tesco Lotus Extra was the first major modern mall in Phuket and has a range of high-quality goods on offer. It's basically a supermarket with a decent toys department and a pretty good electronics section. The mall also features other stores such as McDonald’s, Boots, a good electronics shop, lots of fast food, fashion outlets and more ATM machines than you can shake a bank card at. There are also some stalls in the walkways between the many stores. Upstairs is a food court and a kids' play area.
