St. Lawrence Market is a central and large public market in Toronto, Canada, mainly known for its fresh, high-quality produce. Over two centuries old, St. Lawrence Market consists of several prominent and cultural buildings such as St. Lawrence Hall, St. Lawrence Market North, and St. Lawrence Market South, each a distinct example of stylized architecture.

St. Lawrence South was Toronto’s first city hall and jail, whereas St. Lawrence North is connected to the meeting place St. Lawrence Hall. On the southwest corner of Front and Lower Jarvis Streets, the market is also popular for its location in Toronto’s historic Old Town.

What are the highlights of St. Lawrence Market in Toronto?

A farmer’s market is hosted by the North building every Saturday, with 43 vendors inside the building and many cart vendors outside the building. On Sundays, there’s an antiques market instead, often displaying an even greater variety of goods.

On the west side of St. Lawrence Market North and St. Lawrence Hall, Market Lane Park’s gardens, flowerbeds, and landscaping features are additional testaments to the area’s history, converted to pedestrian use only in 1967. St. Lawrence Hall is also a 1,000-seat amphitheatre, which hosted public gatherings, concerts, and many other events as the social centre of Toronto before other businesses outgrew its venue.
