A word of warning about checking in with the night staff...
Upon arrival at the hotel I was asked to pay for the room. I was fairly certain I had already paid, but when I said as much I was told in a condescending tone that there was no card on file and I would have to pay. Being non-confrontational, I paid, and then checked my emails and bank statement when I got to the room. I had been correct, I had already paid, so I went downstairs to try to get a refund for the amount I had just overpaid. The conversation went as such:
Me: "I can show you right here a reciept to show that I've paid."
Them: "I can show you right here that there is no other card on file", in a mocking tone.
I was told that they couldn't issue a refund and I'd have to wait to see a manager in the morning.
After a terrible night's sleep thinking about the confrontation and worrying about getting my money back, I went down to the desk and the manager had already issued a refund as soon as she got in. I am grateful for this, and this is the reason they have two stars not one.
The hotel itself is perfectly adequate. I suspect this was an issue with having booked through hotels.com, and there could have been a genuine problem with no card on file. What I am unhappy about is the way I was spoken to by the night staff. Don't let this put you off, just come prepared for check-in.
