The staff was very courteous. HOWEVER, no amount of kindness or courtesy could overcome what a dump this property is! It APPEARS that they have done a great deal of work to update the facility in certain areas (e.g. the bathroom had new fixtures and tile), but the overall CLEANLINESS was amongst the worst I have ever experienced (other than my travels in third world countries).
For example, I took a photo of the bathtub— it appears that the tub has NEVER been cleaned and there is a visible film of dirt and grime. Bring your shower shoes!!!
Also, one of the pillows had the word “Bristol” written in marker on the pillow— I have no idea how the staff could have put this pillow back into circulation after it had been defaced by a former guest (assumption on my part— maybe the staff had marked the pillow intentionally?).
Guests will notice that there is a sort of “lounge” just down the hallway from the reception desk— you will see a handwritten sign with an arrow that says “Coffee and Refreshments” taped to a door. When I went to see what might be available, I found that it was only coffee (a Keurig), tea, and a plastic container of water. I was glad to see that there is an ice machine, but when I opened it, I found that it is only used as a trash receptacle— no ice available; the machine is either broken or unplugged.
These are all of the treasures that await you at Alpha Inn— IF in fact you make it back the reception desk, which feels a bit more of a HOSTEL check in.
