I visit Tromsø regularly but this was my first time at the Ishavshotel. Although I enjoyed my stay there'll not be a repeat. On arrival there were about 15 people waiting to check-in with just one receptionist. Check-in took around 25 minutes. The same evening I was told the restaurant was closed. So no dinner. The following evening the restaurant was open but "fully booked" with lots of empty tables and no discernable sense of urgency. Dinner was a pre-packed sandwich from the shop in reception. A novel experience at breakfast was queueing for the coffee machine, of which there was just the one. A slow one. So there was a line of around 6 people, some making 2 cups. Patience is a virtue, at the Ishavshotel it is a pre-requisite. On the plus side, the views are breathtaking, the staff are delightful, the rooms are reasonably comfortable, the showers are powerful and breakfast is OK and plentiful. The hotel is in the same price class as the 5 star Grand in Oslo. Enough said.
