Top neighborhoods in Thessaloniki

Ladadika
Ladadika's cobblestone streets come alive when the sun goes down, transforming into Thessaloniki's buzzing entertainment district. Historic 19th-century oil merchant buildings now house lively tavernas where traditional Greek music fills the air. Museum of Illusions offers a quirky daytime diversion, while Place Katouni draws crowds for its atmospheric charm and outdoor dining. Traditional tavernas serve fresh seafood and mezze platters paired with local wines in this walkable neighborhood. Getting around is easy with nearby city buses and a quick 10-minute stroll to the waterfront promenade and city center. Boutique hotels in converted historic buildings make perfect bases for night owls ready to experience authentic Greek nightlife.

Ano Poli
Ano Poli invites you to wander through history on cobblestone streets lined with Ottoman-era houses and Byzantine walls. The hilltop neighborhood rewards your climb with breathtaking views of Thessaloniki and the Thermaic Gulf below. Discover the imposing Eptapyrgio Castle, peaceful Vlatadon Monastery, and charming Church of St. Nicholas Orphanos tucked between traditional stone houses. Family-run tavernas serve hearty Macedonian cuisine in atmospheric settings as the sun sets over the city. Getting around requires good walking shoes and stamina for the steep terrain. Boutique hotels in restored historic buildings offer authentic accommodation with rich character and warm Greek hospitality.

Thessaloniki City Centre
Thessaloniki City Centre is where 2,300 years of history unfolds before your eyes at every corner. Byzantine churches hide golden mosaics while the iconic White Tower watches over the shimmering Thermaic Gulf. Explore Roman ruins that peek through modern streets or people-watch from a café in grand Aristotelous Square. The blend of Greek, Ottoman, and Balkan influences creates a living museum you can wander for days. Fuel up at traditional tavernas or trendy mezze bars before hunting for Byzantine jewelry and olive products along Tsimiski Street. Two metro stations and plenty of walkable streets make getting around a breeze. Stay in boutique hotels housed in restored neoclassical buildings for the full experience of this vibrant Mediterranean gem.

Valaoritou
Valaoritou transforms Thessaloniki's industrial past into an artistic playground where creativity runs wild. Former warehouses now house cutting-edge galleries while neon-lit cocktail bars pump music onto cobblestone streets. The neighborhood pulses with energy as underground venues showcase local talent, and street art splashes color across brick facades. It's where authentic Greek culture meets contemporary cool. Getting around is a breeze with excellent walkability and regular bus service. Eclectic dining ranges from late-night tavernas serving traditional mezze to trendy fusion spots. Boutique hotels in converted buildings offer artistic lodging options, perfectly positioned to explore the waterfront promenade just a ten-minute stroll away.

Kamara
Kamara neighborhood delivers a history lesson wrapped in Mediterranean charm. Ancient treasures like the imposing Arch of Galerius and Byzantine-era Church of Saint Demetrius sit alongside trendy cafés serving freddo cappuccinos. Roman ruins and weathered marble reliefs tell stories of conquests past while pedestrian streets buzz with modern energy. Cozy tavernas dish up traditional Greek fare with outdoor seating that puts you eye-to-eye with monuments. Boutique hotels occupy restored neoclassical buildings, many featuring rooftop terraces with stunning views. The pedestrianized center makes exploring on foot a delight, while nearby metro and bus stops connect you to greater Thessaloniki.

"Clean room, great staff!"
Electra Palace Thessaloniki
"The Hotel, staff and service are second to none. We can’t wait to go back….from the breakfast to an evening meal on the rooftop, it simply doesn’t get any better. The Spa and rooftop pool are great for relaxing as is the Executive Lounge."
Hebrard Industrial Suites
"Brilliant nice and central"
Makedonia Palace
"Great location - a fifteen minute walk along the promenade to the White Tower and lots of restaurants - a couple of good restaurants in the other direction as well. The room was great - nice room with balcony and gorgeous sea view. The on site restaurant was good for breakfast and lunch - had one evening meal there which was good but rather pricey. Swimming pool was clean and well maintained - during our one week stay there was one occasion when I needed to wait for a sunbed but generally not a problem - especially if you arrive at the pool before about 10:30. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. No nearby beach but easy to get a boat from the White Tower to reasonably local beaches. Would definitely stay again if we returned to Thessaloniki."
Vanoro Hotel
"Very nice staff, flexible breakfast. Very accommodating. Not in the city center and the street is not the best. There is parking in front. Its just not a 5 star but i would recommend."
