I took a chance and booked us a location that was off the touristy spot where all the big hotels were - so glad I did - VUE is a hidden gem. We took to walking around the Hutong neighborhoods right away, my father loved his morning walks in Houhai Park which was right behind the hotel. "Perfectly located accommodation in the middle of the Hutong. Walking distance from the subway, shops. Forbidden city is a 40 minute walk, meeting point for the greatwall bus is a 45 minute walk. Very friendly and helpful staff in the hotel, fast internet. We stayed in the familyroom with 2 separate bedrooms and bathrooms, very spacious and nice views."
