Hyatt Place San José/Pinares
8/10 Good
"Our room was perfect and clean. We did request extra bedding which arrived quickly for the pullout couch. Water was complimentary and helpful. The pool was cold so we weren't able to enjoy it, even though it was warm outside, it was too cold to swim in. The dining staff were fantastic (especially Cesar). Super accommodating and kind. Breakfast was good, lots of options, but the eggs had lemon flavor which was odd. I asked about the sour taste and the chef said they add lemon juice so we ordered from the omelette bar. Lots of affordable options for dinner. LOVED my charcuterie platter. Felt so fancy at a reasonable cost and well made. Parking was easy and felt safe, also complimentary. We wished we booked a closer hotel for the airport(was about 45 minutes away with traffic) but now we know better for next time."
Hotel y Restaurante El Guarco
10/10 Excellent
Trogon Lodge
10/10 Excellent
"I highly recommend The Trogon Lodge. The staff at the reception desk, the restaurant and the bar/café were super kind and helpful. The new manager is doing a great job. Delicious food: sopa azteca, sauteed trout with veggies, chicken stew, egg omelettes, for example. The trout could not be fresher since the hotel has its own trout ponds. (If you like juicy trout better ask the chef to cook it for less time.) The hotel is located at 2,200 meters above sea level (7,000 feet), at the edge of a crystal clean river, with a soothing sound and view areas with chairs to relax. Gardens and mountains around it are spectacular. The beds are very comfortable making it hard to get up. Many stairs and small hills to reach the upper rooms. The trails can be challenging, and I recommend using hiking boots there. Again, highly recommended."
Hotel Quelitales
10/10 Excellent
"Thoroughly recommend Hotel Quelitales. A fantastic location especially for birders. Friendly staff, excellent food and lovely room."

Rancho Rio Perlas Resort & Spa
8/10 Good
"★★★★☆ A beautiful and relaxing stay with a few disappointments We really enjoyed our stay at Rancho Río Perlas. The property is beautiful, peaceful, and full of charm. The gardens were lovely and well maintained, especially considering the rainy season. The pools were a highlight — particularly the hot pool, which was clean, relaxing, and enjoyable. Our room was excellent: spacious, comfortable, and a lovely place to stay. There were a few areas where our expectations did not match the experience. From the website, we expected a restaurant, pool bars, and more extensive spa facilities. Although these areas exist and look attractive, the restaurant and bars were not operating during our stay, meaning we had to leave the property for lunch, dinner, drinks, and snacks. The spa appeared to be limited mainly to massages booked in advance. The WiFi worked well around the grounds but was unreliable inside our room. Breakfast was somewhat disappointing for a place presented as a spa and wellness destination. The Gallo Pinto was very good, but options such as store-bought muffins and bottled juice did not reflect the healthy image promoted online. The breakfast service could also have felt warmer and more welcoming. Overall, Rancho Río Perlas is a beautiful property with great potential. We enjoyed our visit and would recommend it, but clearer communication about available services and some improvements to the food and hospitality would make it an exceptional experience."
Rafiki Safari Lodge
10/10 Excellent
"My family and I stayed here for 6 nights and had the most amazing time! The property is absolutely gorgeous, peaceful, and just the right amount of isolation in the mountains. The staff was incredibly nice and accommodating, always checking to make sure you're having a great time. The excursions were fantastic, we highly recommend the white water rafting! I took my 6 year old daughter on it, and felt very safe with the expertise of our guides. If you are looking for a true getaway in nature, this place is for you! You will wake up every morning to the sounds of the rainforest, including the most beautiful birds! The property has trails with waterfalls, a small swimming pool and "warm pool", and the food was delicious. Highly, highly recommend a stay at Rafiki!"
