The property is so peaceful and calm and was such a wonderful experience. We are so pleased with how everything turned out. The pool was immaculate. The food and drinks were delicious. The staff was kind and patient and were wonderful at every turn. The golden retrievers that are on the property are so sweet as well.
Overall, we had an excellent time and would love to return.
Some people may think that the location overlooking the ocean on the north shore is too secluded from the main towns, Ponta Delgada and Ribieros Grande, but we liked the fact that we could easily get there by cab or rental car if needed. This full service resort was an ideal spot to recharge and get away from crowds and noise of the more popular touristy spots.
We arrived and were met by friendly & efficient staff who got us checked in quickly with no wait - even though it was before lunch. We went directly to our beautiful 2 bedroom apartment which provided gorgeous ocean views. A fully outfitted kitchen with any appliances you need to enjoy dining in. A Snack Bar/coffee shop is a couple of blocks away for that morning latte. An Azores walking trail along the ocean is directly across the street! Our family loved staying at Whales Bay...
A beautiful quiet spot, close to small towns and villages. An easy 15 minute drive down to Ponta Delagada and easy access to go east or west. Secure and off the road with a view of the ocean and rolling hills, we enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended.

I have stayed at Grand Hotel Açores Atlântico five times in the last 18 months. The staff is especially friendly and accommodating. Antonio in particular always greets you with a warm smile and an interesting fact about the island. His quick wit is a plus too! I will always stay at the Grand Hotel.
My first trip to Lisbon and the Azores was most pleasant. The hotel I stayed at had marvelous facilities; the staff were some of the best I've ever encountered. The view was magnificent, and the patio was perfect for relaxing and getting some rays, while the magnificent views from the patio of the countryside were like a dream, yet real.
The food was great, and to top it off, the hotel provided rental car service at a reasonable rate. Without the car, I would have missed the joy of driving...
Very spacious and clean place to stay for your visit to Sao Miguel island in the Azores. Not only were the facilities and amenities amazing, but the staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly, and also held our bags and provided a list of things to do, restaurants, and more. Parking is not located immediately in front of the door to enter but free parking is only a few steps away. We’d highly recommend this place for your trip to the Azores!
This is an excellent hotel. We loved it. The facade looks old fashioned but it is modern inside. The room is large and super clean and most have balconies. It has a large pool and a huge pool area with loungers and tables. Breakfast is included and excellent. The staff is the best. Super nice and helpful. Maria called several restaurants for reservations and came out to the pool to inform us. Perfect central location.
I stayed here with my boyfriend for one night and it was our favorite stay in Sao Miguel! The staff were kind and accommodating & even helped us celebrate our 3rd year anniversary. I would highly recommend this place! Extremely clean and the pool and pineapple greenhouse were amazing!
The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The rooms were beautiful and clean. The whole property was lovely. Breakfast was an assortment local cheese, fruit juices and teas. But mostly, the staff! They were the jewels in the crown.
