This is a charming, family-run inn near Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey). The accommodations were comfortable although simple, and the pub is fantastic, with really excellent food. The service by the family that owns th Inn and their employees is very good. The prices are reasonable, and the locals are friendly. The garden is very pretty also. No complaints, would stay again. The tomato soup and goat cheese salad were standouts.

The hotel is actually a few cozy rooms above a pub. The rooms are spacious enough. I have also stayed at the Lodge in Newbury and the Dolphin was miles nicer. I was worried about noise facing the street, but it was very quiet. I never heard any noise from the pub. The staff were very nice and accommodating. This felt more like staying at a friend’s house.
